Wellington Caves

The Wellington Caves are located approximately 8km south of Wellington and is home to two exceptional caves, and a phosphate mine. The Cathedral Cave is the largest of the two and is home to one of the world’s largest stalagmites. The Gaden Cave is renowned for it’s delicate limestone coral. The phosphate mine is the newest addition to the area and features old workings from a World War 1 mine and also features a number of fossils and bone fragments dating back from the prehistoric era.
The Education service at Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mine aims to help teachers and students in learning all aspects of the Caves and Mine, including aspects of environmental studies, history, and geology in a hands on learning environment.
