School Excursions Australia

National Archives of Australia

The National Archives of Australia brings students and teachers together to stop, look and listen to the memory of a nation with an education program specially designed for primary and secondary students.

Join enthusiastic educators to discover and explore a treasure trove of Australian history, using inquiry and experiential learning strategies including hands-on objects and role-play scenarios.

The National Archives’ fantastic collection traces our history from Federation, the two world wars, the immigration boom, to after Whitlam’s time.

Investigate the nation’s founding documents – one of the most popular is the Royal Commission of Assent signed by Queen Victoria, a national treasure. Participate in an authentic dictation test designed to exclude potential migrants, learn about the birthday ballots used to conscript young men for service in the Vietnam War, and also stories of ordinary and famous Australians and how their experiences connect to key moments in our nation’s history.
