As one of Canberra’s most popular attractions, Parliament House offers structured programs designed to meet the needs and interests of students of all ages and abilities. Students are engaged and challenged while they learn about Australia’s representative democracy in the home of the federal parliament. A visit to Parliament House can include a guided tour, parliamentary role-play and light refreshments.
Led by a friendly and knowledgeable guide, the tour will take students into the Senate and House of Representatives chambers. On parliamentary siting days visiting schools may even have the opportunity to watch Parliament in action. Students will also learn about the building’s impressive architecture and see aspects of the Parliament House Art Collection including portraits of former Prime Ministers. Schools can also book into the role-play program run by the Parliamentary Education Office. During the program students explore how parliament works by acting as parliamentarians in one of several role-plays that teach about parliamentary processes.
