Last Term, a group of Australian students (Year 10 and 11), accompanied by three incredible teachers, embarked on a truly life-changing journey to Africa – a trip grounded in service, cultural connection, and shared learning.
Zimbabwe: Service, Connection & Impact
From the moment they arrived, the students immersed themselves in meaningful service work alongside local communities. Together, they built a thriving vegetable garden, an initiative that will continue to support sustainable food sources long after their departure. The experience wasn’t just physical work; it was about collaboration, understanding, and genuine cultural exchange.
Equally impactful was the time spent with local children. Our students read stories, shared laughter, and helped nurture literacy skills in classrooms filled with curiosity and joy. They also donated several suitcases of footy boots, gifts that sparked excitement and created lasting connections through sport. A friendly local soccer match brought everyone together, proving that sport truly is a universal language.
Botswana : Adventure & Cultural Discovery
Beyond their service work, students experienced some of Africa’s most breathtaking sights and unforgettable cultural moments. A visit to Victoria Falls left everyone in awe, with its sheer power and beauty. They then stepped back in time aboard the iconic Bumba Train and enjoyed a sunset cruise on the Zambezi – all unique experiences that are often seen on postcards.  The adventure continued with a tented safari in Chobe National Park, where students were fortunate enough to witness Africa’s wildlife in their natural habitat, lions, hippos, elephants, warthogs, giraffe and cheeky monkeys. An experience that left a lasting impression on all.
Cape Town: Beauty, History & Reflection
The journey then took the group to Cape Town, where natural beauty and rich history blended seamlessly. From the dramatic landscapes of Cape Point to the unforgettable encounter with penguins at Boulders Beach, every moment added depth to their experience.
Exploring the vibrant V&A Waterfront, Robben Island, and Table Mountain, then participating in a township tour offered powerful insights into South Africa’s history and communities. These experiences encouraged reflection, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world.
The trip concluded with a vibrant and celebratory evening, an African dinner filled with music, drumming, and shared stories. It was the perfect way to reflect on a journey that had inspired and transformed each student.

This journey was so much more than a school tour, it was a truly life-changing experience. Students returned home with broadened perspectives, a deeper understanding of different cultures, and a renewed sense of gratitude and global responsibility.
